Ritornell makes business cards that play through a music box

Richard Eigner, the man behind the experimental music project Ritornell and sometime drummer for Flying Lotus and Patrick Wolf, has created business cards that can be played through a specially designed music box. Designed by Katharina Hölzl, they were inspired by the Ritornell project’s live show, where audience members were invited to bring along their own music boxes and Eigner conducted them turning the levers – you can see how that turned out here.

He explains some of the technicalities of how the business cards work on his “website”, along with a video of Ritornell’s contact information being played:http://richard.ritornell.at/index.php?show=musicbox_cards&w=1:

“With the aid of laser assisted milling, nine micro compositions consisting of circles, triangles and Ritornell’s contact information were applied onto a long musicbox paper stripe. Before handing out the cards to interested adressees, each individual subdivision is played back via an especially designed musical box – thus providing every business card receiver with a tailor made musical experience.”
