Ostgut Ton x Sub:Stance Label Showcase

Last Thursday London borrowed Berlin’s vibe for the night, when Berghain’s own label Ostgut Ton and club night Sub:stance took over Hackney Downs Studios.

I arrived at the venue around 2 am, to find that Electric Minds, the organizers behind the event had equipped the warehouse with a decent set up, including a Function-One soundsystem and really cool video projections throughout the two large rooms. Ostgut Ton hosted the main room, and something one couldn’t miss, was their logo projected on the walls and the dazzling visuals, featuring geometrical patterns behind the DJ. At that point Panorama Bar’s resident Tama Sumo was spinning Delta Funktionen’s Minds Into Meltdown.

At 2.30 I found myself in the second room, hosted by Sub:stance, where Shackleton was delivering an atmospheric, old meets new, at times meditative, live set, complete with sophisticated percussion sounds and heavy bass and seemed to be having an excellent time. Scuba, the founder of the Sub:stance night at Berghain, was up next and played a four hour techno set with lots of tunes taken out of his latest album ‘Personality’. Around 4.30 quite a few people made their way torwards the main room for the last set of the night. Ben Klock was on, treating our ears to Ostgut Ton classics and proper quality techno.
