Nathaniel Whitcomb works with stop-motion and nostalgia
Nathaniel has been working in design for five years and deserves to be known world-wide. His moving festival posters and graphic design works are highly orginal and a delight to experience. He layers sentimental magazine cut-outs creating magical new worlds and stories full of emotion. He’s been described as “Every musician’s best friend”, collaborating with musicians like Holy Spirits, Monster Rally, Mutual Benefit and Birkwin Jersey creating imagery to enhance live performance.
Nathaniel has said that “Art and music are two of my passions, combining them seems only natural to me. Designing show posters is just one way I’m able to visualize the sounds others create.”

“Collaborations was a mixtape comprised of 20 different musicians from around the world creating tracks together, most never having met. The project was even presented by three separate music blogs, working together for the common goal of sharing music they love. I had the honor of creating the art and design for this inagural weget by cassette/digital release which featured two men, one in the same, sharing a single bouquet amidst a densely layered landscape. In order to help support the limited edition tape I created a motion collage set to the Holy Sprits & Gem Club collab “Fingertips.” The song was later performed one time only and I had the pleasure of performing the motion collage live alongside them.”

“The Birth of Medusa—my inaugural attempt at combining my love of sound, motion, and poetry. It also marks the first (non-live) collaboration with audio researcher and sonic wav manipulator RxRy as well as the first film I’ve produced using my own footage. I hope the outcome is as much an experience for you as it was for me during its creation.”

“In order to help support our Kickstarter funded tour of California I created a series of limited edition posters, one for each show. The design featured collage elements from the live visual performance I did with both Holy Spirits and Mutual Benefit. Although the poster suggest otherwise, I put together a short visual set to accompany our fellow tour mate and coastal traveler, Steffaloo.”
Below you can also see a collection of his collages named Thought Orbs. He explains that “Thought Orbs is a collage study. By isolating the figure in an image and displaying one small portion of the environment we are able to glimpse into their thoughts. Even if it is merely a millisecond as they survey their surroundings.”
