Jackmaster's Top 10 Royal Wedding Selections

A few weeks ago Jackmaster tweeted Need to DJ at another wedding ASAP and what better wedding than the royal one? Unfortunately it was pretty tough getting hold of Queenie to hook up the gig, so we did the next best thing and asked the Numbers man to pick us his Top Ten Royal Wedding Selections to soundtrack Kate and Will’s special day.

Having never released his own music, Jack Revill’s reputation has been built by his ability as an expert selector. Evidence of this can be found in his current Fabriclive mix and now, his majestic playlist for us. “At a wedding everyone is up for the party. There’s such a wide range of people from kids to grannies and you’ve got the challenge to make all of them go for it on the dancefloor. I’ve always said a DJ’s job is to make sure other people have a good time and no where does this ring more true than at a wedding.”

“The last time I played a wedding it was for my boss from my nine-to-five at Rubadub and the biggest tune was probably Isley Brothers’ This Old Heart Of Mine which is why that tops this list. Got to play my other boss’s 50th too and that was at the Sub Club, there I played classic techno as well as motown and everyone was into it.”

In his selection there’s a mix of slow dances, sing-alongs and dancefloor classics, all united by one theme. “While they’re mostly love songs, some of them are heartbreak anthems too, but they are still love songs all the same. Out of all them Womack & Womack has to be my favourite – I even played that at Sonar before.”

And if he had been summoned to get Buckingham Palace moving? “I’d only play the royal wedding if the price was right.” Mark Ronson might have had the pleasure of playing Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’s wedding, but Jack’s set his sights a little higher. “Yeah I’d play Beyonce’s wedding but only if I was the groom. I’ve always promised myself I’d DJ at my own wedding so that would work.”

After you’ve got your bunting hung up straight, poured yourself a pimms and saluted the Queen, or whatever it is we are supposed to do today, we suggest you put this on loud and get the party underway.
