Wiley announces new weekly podcast series
Brighton’s Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts has announced an exciting programme of events for this year’s ACCA Digital in partnership with Brighton Digital Festival. The interdisciplinary arts hub is set to host a wide array of boundary-pushing electronic performers, and below, we’ve cherry-picked the four most unmissable acts from its forward-facing line-up.
Caterina Barbieri (Thursday 10th October)
Barbieri is an Italian composer (whose ‘Virgo Rebellion’ made it onto our best tracks of 2018 and who recently opened for Aphex Twin at Printworks), and she’ll be moulding her exploratory sounds to a live A/V set with multimedia artist Ruben Spini. Find more information here.
Holly Herndon (Thursday 17th October)
Continually exploring the realms of new technologies, Holly Herndon not long ago gave birth to an A.I. baby named Spawn, a continually-learning being which informed her third album, ‘PROTO’. She’s set to perform new material from this record, developed in conjunction with her partner Mathew Dryhurst, with an expanded musical line up and vocal section. Find more information here
Tim Hecker (Tuesday 15th October)
Tim Hecker’s last release, ‘Anoyo’, and 2018’s ‘Konoyo’ found him visiting Japan to work with gagaku musicians from Tokyo Gakuso. The Canadian electronic composer will be joined by Sugai Ken and his brand of “neo-japonica” – a blend of traditions and contemporary sound technologies, Japanese folk music, urban native field recordings and sound art. Find more information here
Planningtorock (Friday 11th October)
A pioneering artist in every sense of the word, the England-born, Berlin-based Jam Rostron aka Planningtorock will haul their innovative live show to Brighton. They released their fourth album ‘Powerhouse’ late last year – a playful, radical document – and their ACCA performance promises to premiere acoustic renditions of tracks from that record. There’s also a genderqueer dance party planned for after the main event, featuring an electronic set from Planningtorock and their guest S/HE (Tomboys Don’t Cry). Find out more information here
