Irish singer-songwriter Conor O'Brien performed in Paris in April, and the whole gig is captured here in black and white.
The thing about Villagers is that he, Conor O’Brien, is never satisfied enough to stop tweaking. Any performance you watch him give is always a little bit different, and this one is no exception. Mumbling apologetic, jokey GCSE French between songs, bringing his band on and off stage, switching instruments continuously and throwing experimental “ooohs” and “aaahs” into his songs, O’Brien keeps it interesting, and keeps it new. Watching this fluid, engaging set in the pale light of Stéphane Douillard’s delicate direction only makes it even more beautiful.
