Watch this intimate mini-documentary about Cooly G

Cooly G, whose debut album ‘Playin’ Me’ was really very good and made our top 25 of last year let the cameras follow her for a night and a day in this mini documentary for Vice and Adidas Originals’ “all in with…” series.

It’s an insight into the influences and motivations behind the album, from the early influence of her parents’ sound system and jungle records; her own children – she’s the proud mother of two; and dedication to her football – she once played semi-professionally for Tooting & Mitcham United Ladies. Even with supporting commentary from veteran dance music writer and publicist Gamall Awad and Hyperdub label mate Scratcha DVA and footage from a live show at Village Underground, it’s the down time that’s most poignant, and Cooly who sums up her own sound perfectly: “I just like anything that sounds heavyweight, bassy, and sexy […] I like it when something is overly dramatic”.
