Watch a documentary about Simian Mobile Disco's 'Whorl'

Simian Mobile Disco's recent, Album of the Week-worthy full-length 'Whorl' has a pretty crazy backstory: in April this year, the duo of James Ford and Jas Shaw flew out to the Californian desert and played some live sessions under the sun. The result was then re-edited and spliced together to form the album.

Such a backstory demands to be seen, and sure enough there's now a documentary charting the process of the album's creation. Directed by Anthony Austin, the film follows Ford and Shaw around as they set up near some boulders and protect their system using Mexican rugs. It's interesting to see the making of, but the real draw are the many, many shots of the desert, in all its terrifyingly beautiful glory.

Thankfully, SMD have taken 'Whorl' out of the desert – you'll be able to catch them perform it live at XOYO in London as part of their ongoing, 13-week-long residency programme.

Anti Records released 'Whorl' on September 8th 2014 (buy).
