Vinyl Williams - Higher Worlds

22 year old self-proclaimed teal pop artist Vinyl Williams has premiered an exotically adventurous video that matches the space-cruising feel of his lead single from upcoming album ‘Lemniscate’, Higher Worlds.

Having taught himself how to make 3D computer graphics, and subsequently how to filter them through VHS, the video has all of the nostalgic, static-ridden visuals that you might expect. The imagery jitters with intermittent fuzzing and visual crackling as it seems to traverse through tropically ambiguous territory, seemingly all of which is Vinyl Williams’ attempt at conveying his fascination with the culmination of various religious cultures. He explains the concept of the video’s transcendant aspirations as follows:

The images in ‘Higher Worlds’ are made up of various religious aspects to form an idea of what it looks like to experience something extra-sensory, beyond the very limited one octave of our visual spectrum. The effect is amplified by degenerative processes, such as filming my computer screen as I’m building these 3D worlds, then transferring the footage of this digital environment into an analog composite signal, onto VHS, taking the VHS machine on a roller coaster as it’s laying over in real-time, to encounter natural distortions and imperfections. In a similar way, the 3D models […] Through this project’s imperfections and fuzz, I feel like it created itself. The video has an intense amount of exotic imagery—perhaps because other spectrums of sensation are so in-between and unknown that to express it would be to attach it to the most tropical, vast, exotic dreamscape one could ever imagine. I obviously link it to something like teal treasure temples in a space lounge rainforest.

Yep. Higher Worlds will be included on Vinyl Williams’ upcoming debut album ‘Lemniscate’, which is set to be released on 12th November on No Pain In Pop in the UK, and on his very own label Salonislam in the US. Enjoy the video which is embedded above.
