Tyler, the Creator - Tamale

During the first minute of this new video from OFWGKTA ringleader Tyler, the Creator, he's pixellated out a scene and replaced it with the message "Due to the 'graphic' nature of this film I was forced to blur because people aren't ready to have intelligent conversations before they judge. Welcome to America." Given the overt theme of censorship and masking appearances that hangs over the film, though – with Tyler's mouth disappearing at one point, and with him appearing in whiteface at another – this intervention seems so convenient that, even if it's true, it's done little but add to the force of the film. What you're left with is a video that gives the impression that Tyler is still too shocking to be given free reign to express himself, which, at the point where his grotesque clownery has long since lost its novelty, is possibly the most shocking message he could convey.

As well as using a booty as a trampoline, Tyler can also be seen, among other things, riding a ginger cat like a horse, frolicking on a golf course and singing on the couch while a stony Pharrell Williams plays drums; as usual, there's never a dull moment. The star of this one is the track, though, which segues from a clattering, chaotic tune that sends a "fuck you" to his critics to a downtempo meditation that sends a "fuck you" to his dad.
