The Knife - The Interview

The Knife released this video interview today, which acts as a kind of visual counterpart to their brilliant album biography and contains a thrilling snapshot of the most bodily and arresting noises found in the album itself.

In the clip – while swinging in a park and making us long for summer – they address the purpose of the record, pointing to the meaninglessness (though undoubtable high quality) of their past musical output, and music in general, stating plainly that now, “what we do is political. That should be impossible to misunderstand.” Karin later explains, “we felt too safe behind the masks” – on ‘Shaking The Habitual’, all pretence has come crashing down, and political ideology stares you dead in the eyes. If that hadn’t been clear already, it should be now; consider this video the resounding full stop to their argument.

Presumably this should have been titled “The Other Interview”, given Dummy published a great chat with the band this week in which they said things as awesome as “We try to make sounds that…I would say that gives me a feeling of a queer sound. A sound that is a bit in-between and is more asking questions than answers.” It’s a difficult one to top, but since it’s The Knife, who are amazing, we’ll let this one slide.
