Soul Clap's Youtube playlist of 90s house jams
Soul Clap are Boston Djing pair Eli Goldstein and Charles Levine. Affiliated with the New York Wolf+Lamb label, their take on house music is slow, understated and sensual, moving with the insistent slickness of West Coast hip hop, the softness of R&B, all pulled down in to the trenches of deep house. They’re known for their YoYoYo ’90s jam warehouse parties, so before they play London this weekend, they offered up a quick guide to their favourite tunes of that era.
De La Soul – A Roller Skating Jam Named Saturdays (Mo Mo Dub)
David Morales at his 90’s piano house best.
Soul II Soul – Pleasure Dome (Booker T Dub)
UK garage classic that keeps it deep in all the right ways.
Heller ‘N’ Farley Project – Ultra Flava
One of the jams that defined progressive house, it perfectly toes the line between tough and smooth.
De’Lacy – Hideaway (Deep Dish Mix)
Ooooh that vocal, plus Deep Dish at their handbag house finest just can’t be beat.
Mr Fingers – Closer (The deep downbasement mix)
Beautiful early morning deepness from the inventor of it. Get your art dance on.
Vanessa Williams – Work To Do (MAW Choice Club Mix)
At a time when the lines between house and r+b were much more blurry, Masters at Work bridged the gap like no one else.
Rosie Gaines – Close Than Close
Another UK anthem. Guaranteed lady pleaser and goose bumps all around.
Lovestation – Teardrops
While its impossible to beat the Womack + Womack original, Lovestation managed to give it the perfect rave twist.
Don Carlos – Alone
One of our favorite house records to ever come out of Italy, it’s so perfectly Balearic to wash over you when the sun comes up.
The Fog – Been A Long Time
An absolute classic 90’s vocal it’s also some of the best work from Miami’s legendary MURK duo.
Soul Clap will play Soul Clap’s Yoyoyo 90’s Rave Jam 2 on 20th August 2011
