Silent Diane live at SXSW 2012

Silent Diane are Eli and Christine from Austin, Texas. I first saw the two musicians play as part of Sleep ∞ Over’s super tight backing band in London towards the end of last year. Having since picked up the Capella 7” they put out on True Panther, they’d been one of my priorities to catch at SXSW: I am a sucker for punchy, melodramatic pop and Silent Diane nail the genre with sincerity and a romantic touch. With Christine on vocals and synths and Eli on bass and synth, they gave one of the surest, purest performances of the week. Here’s a clip of them covering Mike Oldfield’s Foreign Affair with gusto.
