Premiere: Sagat - Sigh

Debuting their first audio/visual album release this week is the newly launched Cleaning Tapes, a London-based DIY label that we should all keep an eye on. Titled ‘Helical Scans’, this 10-track experimental-leaning compilation represents a hot bed of thrilling talents both fresh and current from Europe and beyond; including Wanda Group, Huerco S., Microburst, EMV, DTCPU, Sagat, Bantam Lions, Halp, Dynooo and Stefan Blomeier. In terms of the visual side of things, ‘Helical Scans’ arrives with an epic, time-suspending 40-minute video tailor-made by director Ryan Lumley, who has previously worked with Phantasy Sound’s Babe, Terror and Chill Mega Chill.

Premiered above is Belgian techno/ experimental producer Sagat’s‎ latest offering, Sigh – a truly deep, gauzy experimentation that snatches our breath with its ripples of intoxicating emotion. Effortlessly zoning in and out and unhurriedly drifting to and fro, it’s a complete immersion in a landscape very hard-to-describe but easy-to-love. Its video treatment should not be neglected either; woven together with found footage, cheap early digital FX, video feedback and post-Windows-Media-Player abstractions, it’s an psychotropic blur of illusory hypertension, luring us to press “play” again and again.

Cleaning Tapes released ‘Helical Scans’ compilation in cassette format on 29th April. Digital download will be available on 13th May, 2013
