Premiere: DELS - You Live In My Head

DELS has fallen quiet since his debut album ‘GOB’ earned him a gentle, bubbling storm of critical praise in 2011, leaving that storm to simmer on a low heat. Now, with this audiovisual return in the form of the artful video for the new song You Live In My Head (or YLIMH), the MC is making waves in preparation for the release of his new five-track EP ‘Black Salad’.

With a hypnotic animation to match his delicate, lovestruck new sound, DELS is a world away from the fun, solid beats of his Kwes-produced debut – and yet, all of that close-up honesty and fresh, curious talent is the same as ever. In his own words, DELS explains below the inspiration behind this snippet of the new project.

This simple, graphic animation is an exploration of form and colour in relation to sound. It’s an optical poem. I was interested in giving sound a graphic and physical presence. The result aims to show how sound and image can compliment each other and evoke a deeper focus from the viewer.

After being introduced to the seminal work of Oskar Fischinger during my time at Art College, I have wanted to work on a project in a similar vein. I really enjoyed the process of deconstructing my own song and building it back up to create an otherworldly visual. I am sure that when other people hear ‘You Live In My Head’, they too will see their own colours and forms in their minds.

You Live In My Head comes from DELS’ upcoming EP ‘Black Salad’, to be released via Ninja Tune and Big Dada Records on the 26th November 2012, and to be followed by a full-length album in 2013.
