Nochexxx - Charro

The best dance music carries with it some element of escapism, which is often why the best of it is often slightly mad. Skull Disco and Shackleton’s twisted sonics, and over-the-top, borderline bonkers, artwork, Detroit’s Underground Resistance’s fascination with planets, or night predators, all produced electronic fantasy lands that were all the more bracing for their way with big ideas and big, bold aesthetics.

Cambridge producer Nochexxx seems to have taken head of such things with the video for his new record on RAMP Recordings. The track sounds weird and in its own space on its own mind, all bent out of shape squiggling synth riffs, bare bones of rhythms that jolt and patter away with a sinisterly voodoo-like clatter. It’s brash and exciting, something which the video for Charro only seeks to bring out further. Made by East London company Plastic Horse, the animated red and yellow cartoon of Death as a bandit on a galloping horse perfectly adds to the mad, distinctive world of Nochexxx’s track.
