Nite Jewel - Clive (video)

From 2009’s lo-fi dance debut album ‘Good Evening’ to this year’s ‘One Second Love’ which saw her progress as an artist and begin to experiment with elements of 90s R&B and pop, Nite Jewel, aka Ramona Gonzalez’s music still brims with lucid minimalism, not least in ballad Clive. As Gonzalez’s soft voice plays “No fun, no work, no play / amnesia will take it away” over echoes of keyboard, you can’t help but notice that in her video below, Gonzalez appears to be mouthing the words to a different song entirely, somewhere far in the distance. Clive has a great ability to evoke a deep sense of alienation, vulnerability and isolation which is bitter-sweet and haunting.
