M.I.A. - Bad Girls

As we reported last week, M.I.A. has a ‘new’ song called Bad Girls and while it would be generous to say reception has been luke-warm, watching this freshly dropped video I am reminded of the music journalism conundrum that a video can make a piece of music sound better. It’s that visual catchiness setting in: all those visual hooks doubling up with the musical hooks. Whatever, director Romain Gavras’s Morocco-set video for Bad Girls is so obscenely money, with hip hop levels of daredevilry, that it begs at least a second play, by which point I bet you the cash I have in my pocket right now that you think this song’s pretty good too.
