Mala In Cuba - Havana Cultura

This video is a short documentary, offering an insight in what is entailed when two worlds collide. Mala, an incredible producer and DJ, recognised for his stripped down beats went to Cuba with initially no set direction, and speaks of having to be convinced to go by the owner of Brownswood Records, Giles Peterson. Once Mala was there, he went on to record music with contemporary Cuban artists. The beautiful traditional vocals and sounds are transformed into new beats by Mala. Mala captures one of the instrumental music in this project when he states ‘when you take away the words, it bypasses the language barrier in the world’.

‘Mala in Cuba’ is set for release on the 10th September 2012 through Brownswood Recordings.
