Lukid - Riquelme

The video for Lukid’s Riquelme is entirely based around its subject Juan Román Riquelme – an Argentinian footballer with the kind of delicate touch and deft control that makes fans all over the world gush.

The track’s stomping percussion is the cauldron-like stadium and the synth line and warped vocals the beauty submerged in the chaos. Lukid and filmmaker Sam Blair have saturated all the colours to make the footage look like it’s being watched through a kid’s eyes inches from a TV screen, and everything is drenched in nostalgia. Even though Riquelme only hung up his boots last year, he’s a player whose subtle talent was ultimately too subtle for the demands of the top-level European game.
