Khing Kang King - Metal on Oxtongue
Spoken word poet/rapper Mowgli – who we profiled a while back for his beautiful Mount Kimbie tribute project – has teamed up with Old Apparatus’s LTO to form the surrealist experimental hip hop group Khing Kang King. Taken from their debut ‘IAO’ EP, Metal on Oxtongue is a woozy mixture of head-spinning wordplay, a gradually evolving electronic landscape of hollow sounds and a general sense of foreboding, and its video is even less likely to put you at ease. At once extremely visceral and extremely cold and mechanical, the way in which metal and flesh interact here is far from an enjoyable watch, but it really sets off the wonderful juxtaposition that is the queasy sound that LTO and Mowgli make together.
The ‘IAO’ EP is out now on Sullen Tone.
