Watch RVNG's new star Holly Herndon conduct a sextet of voices

Relatively unknown outside of academia or the Berlin avant garde, Holly Herndon is brimming with promise. Some describe her sound as experimental or avant garde, it seems Herndon is a unique artist of the current generation and openly tells of using her laptop as her most significant tool. Now based in San Francisco, Herndon left Tennesse as teenager and went on to pursue a life in Berlin. While in Germany Herndon experienced a vast array of techno, broadening her previous knowledge and so she then returned to the USA with more expansive understanding of music. There is proof of Herndon’s masters in Electronic Music in the way she fits various sounds together, each noise contrasting but nevertheless complimenting one another.

Here is a track which she performed back in March 2010 as part of her MFA thesis at Mills College,, an elite Californian liberal arts school, which awarded Holly with the Elizabeth Mills Crothers award for Best Composer in 2010.
