Ethelwulf - Get Low (Lean'd Out)

Memphis-born rapper Ethelwulf first came onto our radar back in April, when we flagged up mixtape track Black Magic as one of the best new Raider Klan-associated tracks uploaded to SpaceGhostPurrp’s Youtube channel (another artist we featured then was A$AP Rocky – my, how things have changed).

Raider Klan have now shared a video for Get Low (Lean’d Out), whose slowed-down tempo is familiarly soaked in purple drank – but also carries that warped, “phonked-out” vibe, which was all over ‘Purrp’s ‘The Chronicles of SpaceGhostPurrp’. It’s all about how closely you watch with this one: on the surface it’s a pretty standard kaleidoscopic visual, but develops into a rather more eery affair, in the vein of Fatima Al Qadiri’s Hip Hop Spa video. Peer closer and you’ll see blurry shots of a screw-faced Ice Cube and reflected images of grinning cheerleaders, which flash by in amongst the vibrant purple and yellow colour scheme.
