Chromatics - Cherry

Built around a simplistic, barely-evolving bassline, Cherry (taken from the forthcoming ‘After Dark 2’ compilation) and its video are what you might have come to expect from Chromatics and regular Italians Do It Better videographer Alberto Rossini – dreamy synths, lush vocals, textural Wicked Game-esque guitars, hazy videos shot in primary colours…you could probably accuse them of doing it in their sleep by now. As we documented in our simple guide to Johnny Jewel, there are a lot of sonic and aesthetic similarities that appear across all of his work, but this doesn’t translate to him being a one-trick pony. If it can be done in his sleep, it’s only because Jewel is a master of his craft, and that his singular style as both songwriter and producer has been refined to such a degree that it becomes effortless in its execution.
