Bayou - Cherry Cola

Recently we received an email from Bayou asking us to check out their new track. There’s a Youtube link in the email which takes us to a video for a song called Cherry Cola, and it’s excellent. That’s all the information there is to it, though. We were enticed, and decided to email Bayou for some more information. Facts: Bayou lives in London. Bayou writes, produces and sings alone. Bayou’s video for Cherry Cola features Japanese footage, because “it’s the furthest place I can imagine and the song is about escape”.

It was quite an illuminating chat, despite its brevity and lack of any real information. Anonymity is usually a pretty lazy image-making shortcut, used to disguise the fact that the anonymous producer’s music wouldn’t get noticed in the sea of identical bedroom producers if it were just uploaded to Soundcloud as is. But Cherry Cola is so tightly crafted and feels so human that one suspects that Bayou can’t stay in the shadows for too long – a song like this should have a face behind the keyboard.
