Autre Ne Veut - Play By Play

Brooklyn’s Autre Ne Veut, released his second album ‘Anxiety’ last Monday – from which Ego Free Sex Free was always a safe bet for our favourite song of last week. Right on the back of that, here’s the video for Play By Play, which – like the clip for How To Dress Well’s & It Was U – comes with the faintest whiffs of corporate backing, with production also courtesy of Urban Outfitters. Not that that’s really an issue, as, like the aforementioned HTDW cut, this is a solid visual that doesn’t really show any signs of sacrificing artistic credibility.

Like Autre Ne Veut’s exhaustively emotive, texturally full-to-the-brim tunes, Play By Play teeters between sending up some pop video cliches – costume changes coinciding with ever-increasing bling , full-on yearning poses to camera, sinister suited guys suggesting some kind of shady CIA/army subplot – while simultaneously appearing to earnestly, and entirely, revel in them.
