Autre Ne Veut - Counting feat. Mykki Blanco

Autre Ne Veut doesn’t do anything by halves, least of all emotions. So it’s both the best of surprises and no surprise at all that he swerve a remix of recent new single Counting, instead plumping for a cameo by NYC rapper Mykki Blanco. With Autre Ne Veut channelling all the visceral energy he’s known for live into his heartbroken plea of a vocal performance, Blanco provides a grounding counterbalance with wise words: “Be still my mind / Be still the hustle”. It’s actually really lovely hearing Blanco this stripped back; the space Autre Ne Veut creates with Counting is respite for them both. This ER-evoking video returns the song to its original context: the subject is not a departing lover but a family member not long for the world. This new version kicks, swift and bittersweet.
