Antoine93 - Only Do The Music
Antoine93 is a Montreal musician who makes unconventional outsider pop music. His music isn't 'perfect' by any stretch of the imagination – it sounds a bit rough (Antoine clearly has not recorded in a million dollar studio, unless he happens to own a million dollar laptop), and the accompanying music videos are shot in a DIY style using the most functional of digital cameras. But what it lacks in polish it makes up for in imagination, with Antoine producing strange art pop that makes the absolute most out of the multitude of modern tools at his disposal.
His newest song, Only Do The Music, is a spell about the virtues of not doing drugs but letting the music induce a natural high, a particularly funny sentiment given just how druggy the music sounds. The video sees Antoine being taught how to make music after being handed a photocopied version of Music Composition for Dummies. It's directed by Antoine himself, so we're not if it's autobiographical or not.
If Only Do The Music captures your imagination then it's worth checking out 'Try Something Different', the full album that it appears on, as well as the video for another of his songs, the delirious and deranged Don't Jump, which sounds like an EDM banger that's been inverted in on itself.
