Destroyer – Savage Night At The Opera Dan Bejar’s girlfriend’s motorcycle through through gloaming Vancouver is the perfect backdrop for his hypo-rock jam.
Destroyer may not have the same weight over this side of the pond as he deserves, but his album ‘Kaputt’ [Merge] is one of the sleeper hits of 2011 for me, and a video was uploaded to the internet last night. I guess what grabs me about his music is this rock classicism and how it rubs against this really interesting, very Now textures, which is all very well, but more than that; it’s the human-sized tenure of the music, in a way that reminds me of nothing so much as driving through the streets of a clean city on a motorbike into the arms of a person you really fancy. Merge uploaded a video of the very same last night, and you can, and should, watch it above.
