Seven pieces by Petra Péterffy

See work from the artist behind terrific house label Visionquest's finest sleeves.

Petra Péterffy is a graphic and collage artist from Berlin, who has, amongst other things, been behind the beautiful artwork and inserts for Visionquest’s vinyl sleeves. In the immediate future, you’ll see Petra’s work on Benoit & Sergio’s forthcoming single, New Ships, but for now, check out a gallery of her work below, and read our Q&A with the artist themselves.

1. Who are you and what do you do?
I do what people do in Berlin – live in a WG, cycle, recycle and graphic design.

2. Where did you train? How would you describe your work?
I started experimenting with photoshop in high school – you have no idea how many embarrassing jpegs are hiding on my old PC at home. A couple of years later, my attraction to graphics resurfaced, so I started teaching myself how to create more complex images. Lately I’ve been doing collages. My images go through many alterations until I finally say, ok, it’s done. And just as my individual images constantly evolve, so does my style.

3. How did you become involved with designing for labels?
Creating artwork for records is something I’ve been interested in for a few years now. My sister encouraged me to pursue this, so last year I put together my portfolio and we sent it around. I got some positive feedback from a few labels and bands. I guess that’s how it started.

4. What are your major influences, art-wise and otherwise?
Books, music, the daily news, surreal dreams, basically everything I see and read about. But no matter how many art blogs or magazines I surf through, the best ideas come under the shower or while beeing half asleep. Despite that my works are typically rather abstract or visually more chaotic, I love simple and witty designs – like the ones that Noma Bar or Alessandro Gottardo do.

5. What do you have coming up in the future?
I have a few ideas waiting to be realised. I need to make a proper website, and I want to learn many many things, things like how to draw like Seungyea Park, how to make furniture, and how to fix the tap in our bathroom…
