Photo story: Hundred Waters

Tonje Thilesen spends some time in Southern Iceland with Hundred Waters.

I first met Hundred Waters in 2012, when they were touring across the United States in a school bus fuelled by vegetable oil. At a café in the outskirts of Austin’s city center, I saw the band’s singer Nicole perform Gather to an audience of 20 people. It completely blew me away.

In November, I joined the band in Southern Iceland ahead of their performance at Iceland Airwaves. We rushed from one unusual location to another, like we had done so many times before—through empty landscapes and ghost towns in New Mexico, along California’s scenic coast, or in Arizona’s deserts. Even in the freezing cold on foreign land, their eagerness to explore was ever present: the weirder, the better.
