The new Avalanches album might arrive in February

The latest from The Avalanches rumour mill suggests February as a possible release date, with a single preceding it in September.

The most recent update we’ve had from Aussie sample dons The Avalanches was a short snippet of a bombastic hip hop version of Get Happy hinted at for the upcoming King Kong musical, but their years-in-the-making, will-it-ever-happen second album may be slightly closer than we think.

According to Nosheen Iqbal, Acting Culture Editor for The Guardian, the new record from the Aussie sample dons could come as soon as February. Iqbal had some songs played to her by Steve Pavlovic, head of Modular Recordings (Iqbal was recently at Modular’s FOR Festival judging from her previous tweets), and described them as sounding “exactly the same…but in a really GOOD way” in a couple of tweets, as recorded by The Line Of Best Fit. There are apparently 30 songs done and mixed from the record, and the first single could come in September.

Whilst February’s not necessarily “soon” in today’s 24-hour rolling news landscape, it’s certainly a lot closer than “never”. Besides, what’s half a year or so given we’ve been waiting for more than a dozen for the follow-up to their one and only album, ‘Since I Left You’?
