Stormzy launches #ShutUpForXmasNo1 campaign
After being crowned with Dummy's #1 track of the year last week, Stormzy was invited by Anthony Joshua to perform Shut Up in the ring before his Joshua's fight with Dillian Whyte for the British Heavyweight title this past weekend (Saturday, December 12th). Following a wave of adulation and support – and exposure to a legion of new fans – Stormzy has taken the occasion to launch a campaign to get the song crowned 2015's Christmas No. 1.
The Lord of the Mics will go up against John Williams's Star Wars theme though it is X Factor winner Louisa Johnson and her cover of Bob Dylan's Forever Young that Stormzy is hoping to beat. The Christmas Number 1 will be revealed on Christmas Day itself for only the fourth time in its history. At the date of writing, Shut Up is currently No. 45 in the iTunes Charts.
Update (14:00): The song is currently sitting at No. 7 on the charts with nationwide bookmakers also offering bets to see Stormzy "bun X Factor."
Update (December 16th): Stormzy's Shut Up is currently #3 in the iTunes charts and looks set to remain in the top 5 at the end of the week (Friday, December 18th).
