Posthumous J Dilla vocal album announced

A lost Dilla album from the early 2000s is to see the light of day; stream the first single here.

Following J Dilla’s untimely death in 2006, it hasn’t been particularly uncommon that unreleased material of his has hit the market. An addition to the Dilla legacy was announced on Pitchfork yesterday in the form of ‘The Diary’, a lost vocal album that Dilla completed in the early 2000s. The record will see a release through Pay Jay, the label currently managed by Dilla’s estate, in the spring. This will be preceded by the 12” single Anthem/_Trucks_ – both produced by Dilla himself – on April 15th.

Asides from J Dilla production, ‘The Diary’ will feature beats by Madlib, Pete Rock, Nottz, House Shoes, Karrien Riggins and others. You can stream Anthem below.

Fans should check out our recent interview with Dilla compatriot Waajeed, in which – amongst other things – the legacy and immortalisation of Dilla is discussed.
