Penderecki's 'Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima' comes to sweaty basement club in London

Radiohead collaborator Krzysztof Penderecki's work for 52 string players to be performed at XOYO as part of Nonclassical's summer programme.

London classical music clubnight Nonclassical will return to XOYO on April 26th with a programme exploring extreme instrumental sounds from the 1960s alongside contemporary electronica.

The lineup includes Krzysztof Penderecki’s ‘Threnody For The Victims Of Hiroshima’, recently covered by Jonny Greenwood and Aphex Twin, played by 24 violins, 10 violas, 10 cellos and 8 double basses, Gyorgy Ligeti’s ‘Lux Aeterna’ for 16 singers (featured in Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey), Xenakis (scored for six players and 44 drums) alongside Nonclassical/Clean Bandit DJ sets and a 2 hour headline set from Soma’s Alex Smoke. Nonclassical is a club night and UK based label founded by composer Gabriel Prokofiev in 2003. The Nonclassical record label has also released 13 groundbreaking albums to date.
