NME to go free
The struggling music magazine will get a major boost in circulation when it goes free from September.
NME will become a free magazine and given a circulation boost to 300,000.
Publishers Time Inc UK are looking to give a new lease of life to the music magazine, which has suffered from a declining circulation over the past decade or so – currently, the magazine is distributed to around 15,000 paying readers.
From September, the magazine will be available for free at tube stations, retailers, salons, and campuses across the country. It's a similar strategy that publications like ShortList, Sport, and Time Out have adopted – quite successfully – and was first rumoured earlier this year.
Additionally, the NME.com website will receive a major overhaul.
