Missy Elliot and Timbaland albums due in June, Timbaland promises

Two pillars of R&B will return with solo work, apparently.

“Me and Missy are both coming with our albums at the same time, and it will be in June,” Timbaland told MTV News in an interview shot at his Miami home. “Right now, we’re preparing to get both our videos, our first singles, shot kinda at the same time. We want to do it as a movement and spontaneously.”

This is very exciting news – the Virginia pair’s embrace of technology, funk and sheer batshit oddness revolutionised R&B in the late 90s, and it will be Missy’s first album in over seven years, Tim’s first since 2009. The two have kept busy though, with Missy most recently jumping on J Cole’s Nobody’s Perfect and Timbaland working with everyone from Lil Wayne to 50 Cent to David Guetta (but don’t hold that against him). Lifelong friends and collaborators, it’s nice that they’re doing this together:

“I just don’t want to move too ahead of her and she don’t want to move too ahead of me,” Timbaland said. “So we’re both doing it at the same time.”
