South Sudanese national anthem composer interviewed

Mido Samuel, an unassuming 38-year-old musician, has composed South Sudan’s national anthem, making his the newest national anthem in the world. Although modest, this is a man who has created a song of huge political importance, symbolising freedom and independence for millions. You can listen to the anthem below.

“Everyone has to use their talents, their gift, to help get independence,” says Samuel. “Some people try with the gun, some people give money, but this is what I can do.”
