Kanye West to receive MTV’s Vanguard Award

MTV has announced that the recipient of this year’s Vanguard Award will be Kanye West.

Taking place this weekend (Sunday, August 30th), Yeezy will be presented with the honour during the annual MTV Video Music Awards. The Weeknd and Taylor Swift will both perform at the event, which will be hosted by Miley Cyrus. 

The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award (to give it its full title) is the event’s highest honour with past winners including Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, and Beastie Boys. The award “is given to musicians who have made a profound effect on the MTV culture, honouring an artist’s body of work,” and dates back to 1984, the first year of the awards ceremony.
