James Blake makes play for Christmas #1 with new single
James Blake has had an interesting 18 months. He started as one of the best / most interesting dubstep producers in London, and became the one of the best / most interesting dubstep producers who was also famous, then revealed himself as one of the best / most interesting dubstep producers who could also sing. Somewhere along the line, he became one of the best / most interesting dubstep producers who people who don’t really get dubstep thought was overrated. This is because, it is the opinion of this writer, people were either asking James Blake to turn into Autechre or Bon Iver, without understanding that dubstep, as a form, exists between the two – 21st century electronic folk music that wants to sound both new, emotive and nice to listen to, something James Blake and his peers understand intuitively.
Anyway, over Twitter, R&S announced James Blake’s new single, ‘Love What Happened Here’, which is out on the 11th December, meaning it may be Christmas Number One, an event that would mean “we” have officially “won”. Listen to two rips below.
