J Dilla's mother starts record label for her son's unreleased music

Ma Dukes sets up Ruff Draft Records dedicated to her son.

Last week news broke that unreleased material by the late J Dilla would be set free in the form of ‘Rebirth of Detroit’. Since the producer’s death in early 2006, a vast amount of posthumous material has been released, thanks in no small part to his mother’s hard work.

Ma Dukes, as mummy Dilla is otherwise known has announced Ruff Draft Records, named after his third album. The label’s main objective is to put out her son’s previously unreleased material and so the ‘Rebirth of Detroit’ album, which sees artists such as Danny Brown rap over Dilla’s beats, will be the first release on 12th June.
