Good man Sampha lands fourth spot in BBC Sound of 2014 poll

2014 is set to be the year for the Young Turks singer.

Nice news to start your day: Sampha has been announced as hitting the BBC Sound of 2014 poll's final five.

The poll's longlist was originally announced back in December, featuring a handful of top notch acts besides Sampha (such as FKA twigs and Kelela) as well as a few which were, well, maybe not quite as exciting. Across this week, they'll be announcing a new name from their top five shortlist, with the outright winner announced this Friday (January 10th).

Coming fourth in the poll, the distinctive singer and songwriter has been long overdue for these sorts of accolades. Early collaborations with artists like Jessie Ware and SBTRKT led to an absolutely storming 2013, with a great debut EP for Young Turks and ridiculously high profile collaborations like Drake, whose The Motion was absolutely stolen by Sampha.

If you fancy a blast from the past, make sure to read our interview with a fresh-faced Sampha from way back in 2010, and if you fancy something a bit more current, a "sprinkling" of the singer can be heard on SBTRKT's recent r u n a w a y
