Flying Lotus is making a jazz album

FlyLo has a jazz project on the go, plus a Brainfeeder compilation and a new Captain Murphy mixtape.

LA beat guy Flying Lotus has revealed his plans to make a full jazz album, telling an interviewer from web zine Brightest Young Things:

“Right now, I’m on my jazz shit, man. I’m doing a lot of jazz stuff. We’re trying to make something that’s kind of a geek album. There are crazy time signatures and really intense playing, just because we want to go there. We want to play really fast. It’s gonna be fun, man… At the moment, there’s a lot of people involved.”

Quite. Flying Lotus, the great-nephew of John and Alice Coltrane, has been hanging with Herbie Hancock recently and has a phonebook that many producers would envy.

As well as this, he’s planning a compilation for the fifth anniversary of his label Brainfeeder, and revealed that he is working on his second Captain Murphy mixtape, with contributions from Jeremiah Jae, Hudson Mohawke and Madlib confirmed.
