New material from Fever Ray

Our hero offers a cover of Peter Gabriel's Mercy Street to stream.

Fever Ray produced our favourite album of 2009, and has spoken repeatedly about the importance of early electronic pop on her music, so it’s rather fitting that she’d release a cover of 1980s singer Peter Gabriel’s Mercy Street, available through the NME’s website. Though the writer doesn’t seem as big a fan of Karin Dreijer Andersson’s visionary, glowering electronic pop project as one would hope (he calls Fever Ray a band at one point), it’s worth following the link to stream her new track, because it’s pretty good. It will be out as a 7” single on Rabid Records soon, and Fever Ray will be playing the below dates in Spetember.

6 Sep 2010 – O2 ABC, Glasgow
8 Sep 2010 – Brixton Academy, London

Rabid Records will release Fever Ray’s 7” Mercy Street in the Autumn. It will be available to download shortly.
