Dave Invisible electrocuted onstage in Nigeria

The Invisible's guitarist is in hospital following a near-fatal accident in Lagos.

Troubling news – one of the world’s best new guitarists has suffered a serious accident while onstage. Dave Okumu of Mercury-prize nominated jazz-pop band The Invisible has been rushed to hospital, after being electrocuted during a concert in Lagos, Nigeria. He was working with King Sunny Ade ahead of a collaboration, ahead of the release of their second album. The band posted this on their website:

“Dave has survived a life threatening electrocution whilst performing in Lagos, and is presently recovering in hospital. The band have cancelled all forthcoming engagements, and would like to thank everyone for their support and kind wishes…”

One of London’s most important (and, for what it’s worth, nicest) musicians, Dave has worked with Gwilym Gold, Jessie Ware and Mica Levi, and we earnestly wish him a speedy recovery.
