Dance music shake-up at Radio 1

Skream and Benga, Toddla T and Friction among new additions to Radio 1 announces changes to its dance line-ups.

BBC Radio One have announced five new DJ signings – Skream & Benga, Toddla T, Charlie Sloth and Friction – meaning there will be four new dance music shows in their schedule from April next year.

Skream & Benga, probably the biggest names in UK Dubstep and long-time collaborators, will be hosting the Friday night 11pm to 1 am slot, after Pete Tong and Annie Mac. Benga said: “This is a massive honour and we’re going to make the show really special. I’m so excited to get started and everyone is going to have a lovely time on Fridays!”

Toddla T, who’s been on the station’s In New DJs we Trust roster since 2009, playing the Thursday night INDWT slot in rotation with the other residents, will now get a permanent show on Friday mornings 2am to 4am. His response? ‘Wowza!’

But in with the new also means out with the old – Radio One says goodbye to Fabio & Grooverider, Judge Jules and Kissy Sell Out. Fabio and Grooverider and Judge Jules have been at Radio One for over a decade.
