Bobby Womack has been diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer's

Doctors have told the soul man that he has signs of the beginnings of the disease, but that isn't stopping him from working on new music.

Legendary soul singer Bobby Womack has revealed that he has been diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease.

In a recent interview with Gilles Peterson for BBC 6 Music, the singer said ““The doctor said ‘you have signs of Alzheimer’s’. He said it’s not bad yet but it’s going to get worse. How can I not remember songs that I wrote? That’s frustrating.” Womack recently returned to music with his 2012 record ‘The Bravest Man In The Universe’, after recovering from prostate and colon cancer, two bouts of pneumonia and collapsed lungs.

“I don’t feel together yet because negative things come in my mind and it’s hard for me to remember sometimes,” Womack told Peterson later in the interview. “The most embarrassing thing was when we were getting ready to announce Damon and I can’t remember his last name [he thanked Damon Albarn, who produced his album, as ‘Damon Osbourne’ at the Q Awards in October 2012]. That’s so embarrassing.”

Despite this, the sensational artist is reportedly working on a follow-up to his beautiful 2012 record, titled ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’. Here’s one of our favourite videos of the man in performance – enough to send shivers down your already-cold spine.
