Beyonce is also a horse fly

Australian scientists re-names "all-time diva of flies" after fab R&B star.

In news that is vaguely reminiscent of 17th century botanists naming flora after French royals, Australian researchers have named a bug after Queen B. Scaptia (Plinthina) Beyonceae is a rare horsefly that was discovered in 1981, the year of Beyonce’s birth.

Bryan Lesard of the Australian science agency, CSIRO told “the Telegraph“http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/9012133/The-Beyonce-fly-Researchers-name-insect-with-golden-behind-after-singer.html: “It was the unique dense golden hairs on the fly’s abdomen that led me to name this fly in honour of the performer Beyonce as well as giving me the chance to demonstrate the fun side of taxonomy – the naming of species.” He went further, describing the North Queensland insect “all-time diva of flies”.

Beyonce joins the illustrious list of musicians who have had animals named after them. The list includes Mick Jagger, Frank Zappa, Brian Eno and the whole of “the Sex Pistols.“http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcticalymene_cooki and the Ramones
