Antony Hegarty art show to open in Los Angeles

Atmospheric balladeer to exhibit at the Hammer Museum in January.

Antony Hegarty may be best known for his delicate and emotional compositions whilst leading Antony and The Johnsons but his visual art is set to be unveiled at an exhibition at the Hammer’s Vault Gallery. Displaying over 60 pieces completed since 2004, the show will display Hegarty’s artistic processes which washing and burning paper, as well as repetitive mark-making and cutting. The act of tearing and sewing found images together also play important roles in his work.

Some of the pieces might be familiar to those who bought Hegarty’s 2010 album, ‘Swanlights’, the special edition of which was accompanied by a book containing some of the work due to be displayed at the Hammer’s Vault.

The exhibit will be Antony’s first solo museum show in the U.S. and will open from January 22nd through to May 13rd.

In other Hegarty news, “Swanlights” will be presented at Radio City Music Hall in January as a performance piece with a 60-piece orchestra playing songs from all four of Antony and the Johnsons’ albums.
