Ringtone JG Remix
11.11.2015, Words by Sean Murray

Premiere: YACHT - Ringtone (Joe Goddard Remix)

The Hot Chip member adds a distinctive Chicago house sound to the duo's tech obsessive single.

The ubiquity of telephones has reached a peak in 2015. Shamir offered a hotline for relationship advice with his single Call It Off; Unknown Mortal Orchestra pined for his to ring; Drake has lamented all summer about his former flame; Speedy Ortiz has used it as a way for fans to reach out to them if they feel unsafe at concerts; and most recently, Oscar can't help breaking his. They are just five examples (remind us with more, if you wish) of pop's recent fascination with a timeless piece of technology, as are YACHT who this year released Ringtone from their upcoming album 'I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler'.

Joining YACHT's #PhoneHive is Hot Chip member Joe Goddard, who has remixed the single's tech obsessive mantra into a bubbling, posthuman edit that could feature at Gramaphone Records front window display. In a statement to Dummy via email, Goddard explains that the rubbery, disco-inflected sound was intentional: "I love YACHT; I think their music and their live performances are mesmerising, and they are just plain good people," Goddard says. "For this release, I wanted to make an old-fashioned Chicago banger as if the Eurythmics were remixed by DJ Pierre."

Listen to Joe Goddard's remix of Ringtone below and catch YACHT perform at Oslo, London on November 16th and at Manchester's Night & Day on November 17th (details here).

YACHT will release 'I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler' on December 4th through Downtown Records (pre-order).
